From the late Eighties onwards, one football gang dominated the hooligan world. Older, harder and better organised than their foes, they travelled everywhere and feared no-one. After one spectacular street victory, vanquished rivals gave them the name that became a byword for soccer violence The Men In Black.

Manchester United's hooligan mob had long caused mayhem, but in 1989 their hardcore was the target of a massive undercover police investigation, codenamed Operation Mars. It focused on the most infamous of the firm's members, including its `general', Tony O'Neill, and led to more than thirty arrests.

But when the trial collapsed, the firm returned to the fray, wiser, more cunning and more ruthless than ever. They went on to defend their fearsome reputation against the toughest outfits in Britain the Soul Crew, the Zulu Warriors, the Boro Frontline and the ICF. And they were never defeated.

Covering the crucial period 1988-2005, The Men In Black recounts these stories and many more, told by those who were there, those who were involved in the hand-to-hand, close quarter battles and notably, the man police called Target Kilo Tony O'Neill.

Another Monumental Piece of Crap. Miss this and your mental health may stay in tact. Next time use a ghost writer or ask your friend to help. Seriously this book is practically unreadable, nonsensical, its ridiculous and as me Nan would say, 'its a load of flippin cod's Wallop'. This is a minus One Star.

The Men In Black eBook Tony O'Neill Reviews

This is one of the worst books i have ever read. There is no flow to it and half the time you are either trying to figure out who or what this guy is talking about. It was so boring i seriously fell asleep every 20 pages.

The writing is awful. Most of it reads like police reports or the least interesting newspaper ever written.

The story itself could have been great if he talked about why these idiots went to games to fight. Instead we read story after story about how tough these guys think they are. It is like listening to a gym rat talk about how much he can bench press. And fighting with bricks and bottles while backed up by 200 rejects doesn't make you tough.
Let me start by saying that you would be hard pressed to find a bigger Manchester United supporter born and raised in the US. With that said I have read well over a dozen books on football hooliganism most noteably Blades Business Crew, Among The Thugs, Hoolifan, and deported. There are many more, well written books out there. This book was a very hard read and you have to understand this is written by a normal everyday guy. Not someone with a lot of practice. Just a normal guy recollecting his days as a Manchester United supporter, and It shows. It took some time to get through the book and had to put it down occasionally regardless of the fact there is nothing more interesting to me than footy and footy violence. Needless to say the US has no idea what violence in soprts is, and never will. So its interesting to hear what happens abroad. The book accurately describes Tony's experience as a "top boy" for the Men In Black. And all of his stories are gripping and intriguing to say the least. The one problem I have with this book is the number of other peoples recollection of events and others comments. I would've much rather just read it from Tony's perspective. I know without a doubt had I been in England during the peaknof footy violence I would've been right in the mix. But I wasn't thanks to Tony I can read all about and thank my lucky stars I wasn't, because I'm not sure I would've been as lucky as Tony.
Very hard to follow, lots of police reports. Getting through it was difficult but very worth it. Would definitely buy again.
If you are a soccer fan you will love this book. It is interesting and the stories are very interesting. It's a book i couldnt put down.
Bought this for my husband who likes book about the culture of this time and the hooligan lifestyle. This book did not fail, he likes it as much as the Cass Pennant books he has read.
